About Nursing Careers

Qualified Nursing Jobs

As a qualified nurse you will be making a difference to people's lives: supporting patients after surgery, providing vaccinations for children, giving health advice for parents or helping people with mental health problems. RGN Nursing Jobs offer satisfaction and rewards unobtainable in any other profession.

The Nursing Sector

Working in one of the many fields of nursing in the UK can be challenging, satisfying and rewarding. You’ll be working within multidisciplinary teams, including other professionals such as doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapist's and social workers in either acute hospital settings or in the community.

You will be expected to update and maintain your clinical knowledge within your sphere of practice through the regular attendance of mandatory training, provided by your employer or NHS trust.

Finding Nursing Jobs

To work in the UK as a 'staff nurse' or 'nurse practitioner' you will need to have successfully passed nurse training to become qualified and registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Nurse training is taught at both Diploma and Degree level running from 3-4 years in 'branches' consisting of Mental Health (RMN), Adult (RGN), Learning Disability (LDN), Children (RCN) and Midwives.

Occupational Health Nurse Jobs

Away from a community or acute setting, qualified nurses can find work in the private sector/commercial sector. Occupational Health Nurses find jobs working for large organizations providing medicals (consider airlines), assessing the health of employees (for instance, the banking sector) and delivering training and procedure (retail, for example). As well as a registered nurse background with some years experience you will also require specialist occupational health nurse training.

Non-Registered Nursing Jobs

You may still find employment within the healthcare profession if you are not a qualified nurse. For instance, by getting a job as a Health Care Assistant (also identified as Support Worker or Nursing Assistant, and traditionally known as Auxilliary Nurses).

Jobs for Allied Health Professionals

If you wish to work slightly outside a career as a qualified nurse, (though still trained, skilled and specialised, but not as a qualified nurse), yet working alongside nurses – you may prefer to become a 'Allied Health Professional' or AHP. AHP jobs allow you to work either as part of a team, or alone and often alongside nurses and doctors - consider for instance Occupational Therapy, Radiography etc.
